Aussies McKenna and Salthouse Rule Ironman 70.3 Melbourne

Aussies Steven McKenna and Ellie Salthouse ruled this weekend’s Ironman 70.3 Melbourne by posting their field’s best run splits of the race. McKenna posted a half-marathon split of 1:09:22 to take over the lead late and win the men’s pro title with a finish time of 3:39:12.

Ellie Salthouse, redeeming herself after a year of disappointments, posted a 1:21:28 split to outran her T2 co-leaders Amelia Watkinson (NZL) and Lotte Wilms (NLD) and finish with a time of 4:03:18.
McKenna was part of a large lead group of seven men who and swan and rode together in the 90kms. Recent Noosa Triathlon winner Charlie Quin made the first move in the run leg but would fade late which McKenna eagerly took opportunity. Quin finished second and Nicholas Free rounded up a all-Aussie podium in the Men’s Pro category.
