27 September 2019 – London, UK: There was excitement among the Super League Triathlon (SLT) camp this morning as the Pro athletes gathered for the draw to reveal which Groups they will compete in for tomorrow’s Semi-Finals.
Defending SLT Champions Vincent Luis and Katie Zaferes had the privilege of drawing the names of their fellow competitors, with each athlete name being pooled into the alternate A and B Groups.
Luis was up first and drew himself into Group A alongside the likes of Marten Van Riel, Kristian Blummenfelt and Mario Mola. Local Jersey favourite Ollie Turner and Guernsey’s Joshua Lewis were drawn together into Group A, laying down a Day 1 Channel Island battle. The men’s Group B features some of the fastest swimmers in the roster, including Aiden Longcroft-Harris, Aurélien Raphaël, Jonathan Brownlee and Matt Hauser.
In the women’s Semi-Finals, Katie Zaferes drew herself into Group A alongside rival SLT Cassandre Beaugrand and her WTS Champion predecessor Vicky Holland. Similar to the men’s draw, the women’s Group B looks set to be a strong swim competition, with the likes of Emma Jeffcoat, Sophie Coldwell and Carolina Routier hunting for the advantage in the water.
Starting pontoon positions were then chosen by each athlete, with priority given based on their seedings. The transition spots are replications of the pontoon positions.
Tomorrow, the Pros will face the adrenaline-filled swim-bike-run-swim-bike-run. The top 5 athletes from each group, plus the next 5 fastest from across both groups – 15 in total – will continue into Sunday’s Final.
For this year’s RBC Jersey Super League Triathlon Jersey, the Day 2 SLT format is the brutal Enduro (swim-bike-run x3, non-stop). |
