A field of 15 professional athletes will be among the starters joining the more than 900 age groupers at the startline this August 28.
Headlining the professional field and the ambassador of the event is New Zealander, Cameron Brown. Brown is the holder of 12 Ironman New Zealand titles. The 44-year-old added his 13th Ironman title by winning for the 12th time the Ironman New Zealand last March as a 43-year-old, in the process becoming the oldest Ironman champion in history. Brown lines up as the number one ranked athlete in the field and also the eldest professional. Solid favorites too are Asian campaigner Frederik Croneborg (SWE) and David Dellow (AUS).
The event, a 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21km run, marks the 2nd Ironman 70.3 in Bintan after their successful inaugural event last year.
In the Ladies field Australia’s Kate Belivaqua is ranked number one. In full form after top-5 finishes in her last 4 starts, she will be challenged by fellow Aussies Alise Selsmark and Amanda Wilson. Wilson will be making her jump to Pros after years of campaigning as an elite age-grouper.
