A lot of the current growth the triathlons scene in Asia these days can be related to the one most traditional triathlon event in Asia, the Laguna Phuket Triathlon. This year the race will celebrate its 23rd edition, but the island will also host another 2 events, Ironman 70.3 Thailand returns to Phuket and the inaugura Tri-Dash Thanyapura
Race 1: Tri-Dash Phuket in Thanyapura
Date: April 23rd
Thanyapura Tri Dash Phuket will take place at 7 a.m. on Saturday, 23rd April, 2016 at Thanyapura Phuket, a 23-hectare sports, health, and educational complex featuring the best sports facilities and coaching expertise in Asia, an award winning hotel and organic restaurant, a health and wellness center, and an international school working towards becoming a UWC (United World College).
This is the first time the hugely successful Tri Dash grassroot series has ventured outside of Bangkok. Organized by Go Adventure Asia and sponsored and hosted by Thanyapura Phuket, the Tri Dash races consist of a 400-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike ride, and 5-kilometer run, making these races ideal for beginners. Seasoned athletes will find a challenge to go faster.
For the Phuket race, the swim leg will be held at Thanyapura’s 50-meter Olympic-caliber pool and participants with similar swimming ability will be set off in groups. The bicycle course is a single loop on a quiet country road shaded by rubber plantations, and the run will be on a closed road with very little chance of cars and motorbikes zooming by.

Race 2: Laguna Phuket Triathlon
Date: November 20th
The Laguna Phuket Triathlon is Asia’s premier destination triathlon featuring a unique 1.8K swim, 55K bike and 12K run through spectacular tropical scenery. Over the past twenty years the popular race has attracted thousands of age group athletes as well as triathlon legends MarkAllen, Greg Welch, Craig Alexander, Paula Newby-Fraser, Michellie Jones, Chris McCormack and Chrissie Wellington, to name just a few.

Race 3: Ironman 70.3 Thailand

While the course is new to previous Ironman 70.3 and Challenge races in Phuket, the race venue remains the same at Bangtao Phuket, the same grounds of the first triathlon in Asia more then 20 years ago. Start, finish and awards party will all be in one place at Bangtao beach.

IRONMAN 70.3 Thailand will also offer a team relay, a great opportunity for first timers to get a taste for an IRONMAN race. For professional athletes, IRONMAN 70.3 Thailand will offer a $15,000 USD prize purse and for high performance amateurs, 30 qualifying age group slots for the 2017 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
