Blummenfelt and Knibb Dominate at IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside: Course Bests, Back-to-Back Wins, and Pro Series Fireworks

Norway’s Kristian Blummenfelt and USA’s Taylor Knibb claim victory with record-breaking performances at the third stop of the 2026 IRONMAN Pro Series
The 2026 Athletic Brewing IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside delivered a world-class spectacle as Kristian Blummenfelt (NOR) and Taylor Knibb (USA) stamped their authority with dominant victories and new course best performances at the third stop of the IRONMAN Pro Series.
Set against the iconic Southern California coastline, Oceanside once again proved why it remains one of the most competitive and anticipated races on the global triathlon calendar, drawing over 90 professional athletes to the start line.
Blummenfelt Runs Down the Field
Fresh off his win at IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong just a week prior, reigning IRONMAN Pro Series champion Kristian Blummenfelt showcased his trademark resilience and run supremacy. After exiting the swim within striking distance, the Norwegian steadily worked his way through the field before unleashing a race-defining 1:07:01 half marathon.

American Sam Long delivered one of the standout performances of the day on the bike, storming from 33rd out of the water to the front and setting a new course record of 2:02:04—breaking a mark that had stood since 2015. Alongside Germany’s Jonas Schomburg, Long entered T2 with a two-minute advantage.
However, Blummenfelt’s relentless run pace proved decisive. Closing the gap in the final kilometers, he surged past his rivals with just over 2 km remaining to secure victory in 3:40:08.
Schomburg held firm to take second place in 3:40:32, while Norway’s Casper Stornes, the reigning IRONMAN World Champion, completed the podium in 3:41:58 after a consistent all-around performance.
Knibb Dominates Once Again
In the women’s race, Taylor Knibb reaffirmed her dominance with a commanding performance that saw her claim a third career victory in Oceanside.
After exiting the swim in the lead group, Knibb wasted no time asserting control on the bike. She powered to a stunning 2:15:27 split—breaking her own course record—and built a commanding lead of nearly five minutes heading into T2.

Behind her, Norway’s Solveig Løvseth mounted an impressive comeback. After trailing by nearly three minutes out of the water, the reigning IRONMAN World Champion steadily worked her way through the field, eventually securing second place with a strong run.
France’s Audrey Merle delivered one of the breakthrough performances of the race, successfully transitioning to middle-distance racing with a well-earned third-place finish.
Knibb crossed the line in 4:01:39, underlining her position as one of the most dominant forces in middle-distance triathlon today.
Pro Series Momentum Builds
With maximum points awarded, both Blummenfelt and Knibb strengthened their positions early in the 2026 IRONMAN Pro Series standings. Oceanside once again highlighted the depth and intensity of competition in the series, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
