Ciron, Trupa and Tayag Bag Elite Titles at 2024 New Clark City Duathlon

New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac – July 21, 2024 — This past weekend, the sun rose over New Clark City, casting a golden hue on the eager faces of hundreds of athletes who took on the 2024 New Clark City Duathlon. The event, a partnership between the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and GoClark Sports and Events, garnered more than 350 duathletes from all over the Philippines.

Standout Performances

In the men’s NCC Long Elite category, John Patrick Ciron from Team Go for Gold emerged victorious, crossing the finish line with a time of 2:32:16. After stamping the best 12k run split of the race at 41:20, Ciron was overtaken by teammate Marck Ryan Lago at T2, who posted the best 50km bike split at 1:17:17, a splendid speed average of 39kms/hr. Ciron immediately went to work on the run and caight up Lago at the tail end of the first lap of the 2^nd run leg. Ciron would win by 2 minutes and 20 seconds over Lago. Team Isabela’s Maynard Pecson finished third with a finish time of 2:40:22.

In the sprint elite races, TriClark-Volvo’s Juan Miguel Tayag and Team Go for Gold’s Merry Joy Trupa fought off still competition to come out on top with finish times of 1:18:22 and 1:26:28 respectively.

In the age group all-star categories, Baguio-Benguet’s Jet Ramos relied on the strength of his bike and second run split to secure the win at the Men’s Open category. Ramos had to overcome a T1 deficit of almost 6 minutes to Collins Prago but managed to win in 2:40:25, a two minute and 26 seconds winning margin over the Pangasinan native. Other winners in the age group all-star categories are Kristine Bugna who won the women’s open category and Noel Fabros of Team Isabela, champion in the master’s category.

‘’The race had not only been a test of physical limits for the brave duathletes who toed the line today, but also highlighted once again the world-class facilities available here in New Clark City,” said Jumbo Tayag, GoClark Sports and Events race director.

The New Clark City Duathlon is the second leg of the GoClark Duathlon Race Points Series. The Championship race will be held on September 15 at Titan 77.7 Philippines.
