Mascarenhas-Keyes (GBR), Vaczi (ITA) Overall Winners at 2023 Ironman 70.3 Vietnam

With the picturesque white sand shoreline of Son Thuy beach as the backdrop, Christoper Frederick Mascarenhas-Keyes of Great Britain and Krisztina Vaczi  of  Italy has emerged as the overall winners of the 2023 Ironman 70.3 Vietnam.   More than 3000 participants from 62 countries took part in the largest multi-day, multisport festival in Vietnam capped off by a successful 7th edition of Vinfast IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam.

The event was also a testament to the growth of triathlon sport in Vietnam, wherein a record of more than 1,200 locals joined the 70.3 event.

Mark Vysotin of Turkey led from the beginning of the race, who had swum the race-best split of 24:37.  Vysotin also held the T2 lead but would visibly struggle at the start of run.  Mascarenhas-Keyes overcame the deficit with a race-best run split of 1:25:40, crossing the finish line with a time of 4:15:12.  Mascarenhas-Keyes finished more than 4 minutes ahead of the second-place finisher Alexey Vshivtsev. Defending champion Michael Cassinides, finished third to round out the podium.

“It was a tough race because the swim was quite choppy, though the bike course was fast and flat and the aid stations were quite regular so you could keep the water in and get some fluids,” said Christoper Frederick Mascarenhas-Keyes, The VinFast IRONMAN 70.3 Viet Nam Male Winner “It’s an amazing feeling because you’ve put a lot of hard work into it —  the icing on the cake is the performance.”

In the women’s race, Vaczi combined her 4th best bike split and women’s best run split of 1:45:14 to emerge as the overall women’s champion, with an impressive time of 5:02:05. Following closely behind her was Bianca Marcon, who claimed second place with a time of 5:03:24, while Lindsay Nickel secured the third place with a time of 5:05:32.
