Solda, Stawicki Top Overall Finishers at Clark Triathlon Classic; Next-Step Tri Grab Team Competition Honors

Near perfect conditions greeted nearly 400 triathletes at the 2022 Clark Triathlon Classic on Clark Freeport’s Fontana resort last weekend with Lorenzo Joaquin Solda of Next Step Tri and Rhia Stawicki of TriClark-Scania Team taking overall finisher honors with times of 1:47:53 and 1:57:16 respectively.

It is the first time a triathlon event was held in Clark Freeport since the onset of the covid-19 pandemic last March 2020.

Solda registered the day’s best run-split of 30:11 in the 7km run course, to run away from his nearest competitor Lucian Alejo. Alejo had the day’s fastest swim time of 700m at 10:59 and the 3^rd best bike split at 1:05;37 (40kms). Solda and Alejo went 1-2 overall male as well as the 18-24 male age group.

Third overall finisher was 35-39 male age group winner Reagan Nabua who finished at 1:52:21. Nabua also registered the day’s fastest bike split at 1:05:05, or an average of 36.88 km/hr.

British-Filipino Stawicki used the strength of her 2^nd best women’s swim split of 13:30. women’s best bike split of 1:09:16 and women’s best run split of 34:30 to dominate the women’s race, winning overall by nearly 5 minutes and her age group by over 30 minutes. 18-24 age group champ Katrina Salazar came in second overall at 2:02:11. Maryfel Aumentado was 3^rd overall at 2:14:18 and was also winner of the women’s 35-39 age group.

Other age group winners are: Beverly Cariño (W30-34); Maypette Ng (W40-44); Annalie Marfil (W45+); Reuven Alzaga (M25-29); Dennis Borbolla (M30-34); Bryan Retiro (M40-44); Geron Guanlao (M45-49); Enrique Puno (M50-54), Raoul Henson (M55-59) and 70 year-old Gordon McLaughlin (M60+).

The winner of the Team competition is Next Step Tri who clocked in a 4 individual times of 7:30:55 followed by TriClark Scania A with a time of 8:02:41. TriClark Scania B completed podium with a 8:29:47 cumulative time.
