Cassandre (FRA), Brownlee (GBR) takes Title in Super League Singapore; Zaferes (USA), Luis (FRA) crowned Super League Season Champs

The highlight of the final day was the Enduro Championship Series Female and Male races, and it lived up to how every finale of competitions should be – nail-biting.

In the Female Championship, Katie Zaferes was looking ominous after her victory yesterday, and the rest of the field were looking to capture their own moment of glory. With no break in the race, it was a test of endurance and stamina as the best in the world fought to leave a permanent mark on SLT Singapore.  In the end, it came down to a photo finish with Cassandre Beaugrand taking the victory by millimetres from Zaferes. Rachel Klamer came home a close third rounding off the podium.

In spite of Beaugrand taking the top step for SLT Singapore, the overall title went to Zaferes.  On her performance and the SLT series today, Zaferes commented, “I’m both a little happy and a little disappointed because it was so close and I gave everything I had, but it’s always nice to come out on top and it was a good weekend. It’s been a great series and I’m happy with finishing second today but first overall for the series. I think Super League just makes you better all-round because have to work on every little thing – physically, mentally and even emotionally. The pressure is high, even for me.”

In the Male Championship, Vincent Luis roared back and showed his class and display after a disastrous start yesterday, but not without stiff competition from Henri Schoeman and yesterday’s winner Jonny Brownlee. The race was tense, but in the end it was Luis who held firm to win the day. Brownlee pushed him hard and took a well-earned second place, with Schoeman coming home a close third to round off the podium. These results meant Brownlee took the top step for the SLT Singapore, but finished third overall, while Schoeman took overall second and Luis was crowned Series winner.

Said Luis on his win, “It’s a little bit crazy and I still can’t believe it and I’m over the moon. After yesterday I wasn’t sure if I wanted to race today, I was really disappointed, like you work for months and months and some bad things happen like a staple on the road you don’t know where it came from but yeah that’s racing. You can be out for yesterday and win today so that’s sports and that’s why we
love it.”

The 2019 Season will begin with the BCA Super League Triathlon Bali qualifying event from 23-24 March which promises yet another weekend of exciting action for athletes and fans alike.
