Triathlon Destination: Ironman 70.3 Busselton

The best in the west, the SunSmart IRONMAN 70.3 Busselton is the largest IRONMAN 70.3 event in the southern hemisphere and a race not to be missed. On the Saturday, 4 May, 2019, this is the original Busselton 70.3 event, held in May every year since 2002.   Held in the picturesque south west town of Busselton, Western Australia, it attracts elite and age group athletes from around the world.  With a flat, fast course, perfect for beginners or going for your PB, and in one of the most popular tourist destinations in WA, it is the perfect place for a race-cation.

The race incorporates 1.9km swim in the pristine waters of Geographe Bay.  Starting next to the iconic Busselton Jetty, the swim this year will be a one lap course which will see swimmers no further than 300m away from shore.  The ride heads out of town on a two lap, 90.1km flat and fast bike leg.  You will ride along the coast, through farm land and the beautiful, shaded Tuart Forest before heading back to town to the cheers of thousands of spectators.  The run is 21.1km flat run along the foreshore of Busselton, with a big crowd of locals lining the course, cheering you on.

The IRONMAN 70.3 race is part of a weekend of events that is the SunSmart Busselton Festival of Triathlon. This year the Festival runs from the 3-5 May and includes the IRONMAN 70.3 for individuals and teams on Saturday and the Open Water Swim and Kids Triathlon on Sunday, with a Lifestyle Expo running all weekend.
