Zaferes defends title, Luis dominates at 2018 Super League Jersey

American Katie Zaferes defended her 2017 Super League Jersey win by winning the 2nd day Enduro format and finishing 2nd in the 1st day Triple Mix format.   Vincent Luis of France dominated by winning both formats in the men’s category.

Zaferes won the overall title by winning day two’s Enduro format, which required the competitors to complete three sprint distance swim bike and run legs in continuous flow with no rest stops.   Zaferes finished the Sunday’s format in 1:00:37, a 14 second win over fellow American Kirsten Kasper, and a 50 second margin over Triple Mix Winner Cassandre Beaugrand of France.   With the most balanced effort and highest 2 day total of 46 points, Zaferes took home the overall title and the top prize purse of $20,000.   Beaugrand won Saturday’s Triple Mix format, a format in which 3 different orders of swim, bike and run are separated by 10 minute rest stops.  Beaugrand won all 3 mini-races, but was outgunned by the experienced Zaferes in Sunday’s Enduro format, finishing in 3rd.

Luis won both the Triple Mix and Enduro format, gaining a perfect 50 points and $20,000, to outduel Henri Schoeman of South Africa on both formats.  Schoeman finished 2nd on both formats to finish with 42 points.   Last year’s Jersey winner Kristian Blummenfelt of Norway earned 34 points to edge Richard Murray of South Africa by 2 points to gain the last spot on the overall podium.
