5 Early 2018 Season Races to Join in The Philippines
Triathlon-crazy Philippines just keeps on growing year-by-year. A look at the multi-sport calendar and you see races popping up all over the country. In its infancy, races were limited to Subic Bay in Central Luzon, and Batangas in Southern Luzon. Now, there will races from up North in Ilocos Norte, and all the way to Mindanao.
Check out these 5 races to get you into an early groove in your 2018 triathlon season:
- FastTwitch Enduro Duathlon, Clark Pampanga- January 21, 2018
There is a growing trend in the multisport world of triathlon, spearheaded by Island House Triathlon and Super League Tri, and that is races where they feature unique race formats. In this event in Clark Philippines, duathlon is tweaked from the usual run-bike-run format, and is extended to feature more legs. In the Super Enduro category, veterans and intermediate athletes get to train their transition skills, and also race short, lung busting threshold efforts. Each leg will be short, 2.5kms run and the bike at 15kms. But there will be 4 run legs, and 3 bike legs! Run-bike-run-bike-run-bike-run! Yes, you read that right. Super brick anyone? There are shorter categories enough to satisfy everyone: Enduro will have 3 run legs and 2 bike legs, and the mini-sprint stays in the usual run-bike-run format, perfect for beginners.
2. National Age Group Triathlon, Subic Bay- January 28, 2018
Yes, an early season triathlon event, just right for those longing to shake the off-season cobwebs away. This is the Philippines’ official triathlon season kickstarter for many years now. It is organized by Triathlon Association of the Philippines and features the standard olympic distance. One of the most popular race series in the Philippines, Bike King Tri 1 (formerly Tri-United Series) will feature the standard olympic distance. In the past two years, it has garnered around 1,000 participants per event, making it the most attended event in the standard distance category.
4. TIN Man, Curimao, Ilocos Norte- March 18, 2018
There will be plenty of triathlon distance categories in this event held in Curimao, Ilocos Norte, one of the Philippines’ northernmost province, 450kms north of Manila. There are sprint, standard and half-iron distance categories to choose from. Now on its sixth year, Tri Ilocos Norte (now renamed TinMan) promises to hold more surprises for the participants this year. Tri Ilocos Norte features a world-class triathlon race course in the Philippines which both native and foreign participants could look forward to. The Currimao waters, excellent road conditions through the towns of Currimao, Paoay and Laoag along with the scenic greeneries of the run course toward the Malacañang of the North offer a topnotch event course for all participants.
