Local hero Andy Wibowo, Australia’s Samantha Bennett, winners at the Bali Triathlon 2016

The 2016 Herbalife Bali International Triathlon (HBIT) was closed with a great pplause from all participants. Announcing the winners for this year’s race, champions were Andi Wibowo from Indonesia for Olympic Distance Course Men Category and Samantha Bennett from Australia Women category. For Sprint Distance Course, Simon Hearn from Australia as winner for Men Category, and Hannah Blanchett from Australia for Women Category.

With a total of 1,754 participants from 26 nationalities listed in the category of various races, including 260 pax for Olympic Distance Event (1.5 km swim, 40 km bike race and 10 km road race) and 25 relay teams, 285 pax for Sprint Distance (0.5 km swim, 20 km bike race and 5 km road race) and 25 relay teams, and 1,100 pax joining the 5 Km fun run.

The HBIT 2016 event took place at Mertasari Beach, Sanur, and started with Olympic Distance Course category at6.30AM, Sprint Distance Course category at 7AM, and 5k Fun Run category at 7.30AM.

The triathlon started off with swimming in Mertasari Beach, followed by biking along Bypass Ngurah Rai from Waribang intersection to Serangan intersection, and finished with running in Sanur area along Danau Poso and Danau Tamblingan, circling back to the beach. Kids from local schools presented colorful performances by the road side to entertain the athletes on their race.

This year’s HBIT attracted athletes from around the world, including elite pro racers and some of the top names in triathlon such as Andi Wibowo, Jauhari Johan and model Kelly Tandiono.

During the event festivities included Balinese ceremony Bike Blessing and welcome cocktail at Maya Sanur (Thu, 12 Aug), Race pack collection followed by high-carb dinner at Prama Sanur Beach Bali and the race expo at Mertasari beach, which featured health activities from Herbalife such as warming up exercise, yoga, aerobic and Zumba, and live band and performances.
