S2 Sprint Distance triathlon series kicks off in Subic Bay, Philippines as a side event to 5150

Sunrise Events INC, the organizers and liscense holders of Ironman 70.3 (Philippines, Vietnam & Thailand) and 5150 (Subic Bay and Bohol) are adding another event to their calendar, the S2 Sprint Series will kick off this weekend as a sister event of Regent 5150 Subic Bay in the sprint distance format (750m swim, 20k bike, 5k run).

The event is sold out but athletes will have the chance to test their speed at this format also at the S2 race in Bohol on November 6th along with the Bellevue 5150.

The goal of the organizers is to bring more beginners to the sport by adding a shorter event before they can eventually race the 5150 distance. We’ve written before about the benefits of short course racing, and keep in mind that several of the ITU (World Triathlon Series) main events which serves as Olympic qualifying races, are held on the sprint distance.

If your goal is to either start in the sport with a shorter event or you are attracted to speed rather than distance, you will have more opportunities to race at this exciting format in the future
