Women for Tri launches first-ever grant and scholarship programs to support female triathlete

Applications for the 2016 Triathlon Club Grant and 2016 Collegiate Scholarship Programs Accepted Starting October 1, 2015

Women For Tri, an initiative supported by IRONMAN and Life TimeSM, The Healthy Way of Life Company, announced today the launch of two programs to support female triathletes – the 2016 Women For Tri™ Triathlon Club Grant and Collegiate Scholarship Programs.  Applications for both programs will be accepted beginning today with the first recipients notified by December 31.

“The Women For Tri initiative was started to help further female participation in the sport of triathlon – while also providing a platform for female triathletes to share, educate and learn,” said Andrew Messick, Chief Executive Officer for IRONMAN. “We are thrilled to kick off the Women For Tri™ Triathlon Club Grant and Collegiate Scholarship Programs. This is the first actionable step Women For Tri is taking towards increasing female participation and we are excited to provide these scholarship and grants to help fund female triathletes at all stages and abilities.”

Women For Tri 2016 Triathlon Club Grant Program

The Triathlon Club Grant Program has been established to support local triathlon clubs as they develop programming and activities to increase female participation in triathlon. The Women For Tri Board of Advisors will award two rounds of grants up to $2,500 per club in 2016. Clubs can allocate funds towards strengthening training clinics and recruitment programs, providing educational seminars/lectures and hosting networking events/social gatherings.

The first round of applications must be submitted by October 31, 2015, and the second round of applications are due by April 30, 2016. Eligibility extends to all formally organized triathlon clubs.

Women For Tri 2016 Collegiate Scholarship Program

The Collegiate Scholarship program is designed to assist female collegiate triathletes as they develop within the sport. The Women For Tri Board of Advisors will award scholarships to full-time undergraduate/graduate school students who are active members of their respective collegiate triathlon team. 

Five scholarships in the amount of $5,000 each will be distributed, with funds going directly to the students’ collegiate triathlon teams. The collegiate team administrator will provide funds to scholarship recipients for approved purposes including purchasing gear, hiring a private coach, offsetting tuition or school fees, etc.

Scholarships will be awarded once for the 2015-2016 academic year and applications must be submitted by November 30, 2015.
