ITU President and IOC Member Marisol Casado was yesterday recognized as an instrumental leader in the triathlon community when she was awarded the Ron Smith award during the Triathlon Business International annual industry conference.

“I’m incredibly honoured to receive this award, and to be held in the same esteem as previous recipients,” said Casado. “To be thought of as someone who is working to move our great sport in the right direction is very rewarding. It is an award I take to heart, and one that I will work diligently to uphold.”

The Ron Smith award, named for one of triathlon’s earliest pioneers and mentors, recognizes a man or woman who best demonstrates a combination of strong moral character and professionalism in the sport of triathlon and as an individual, and is a role model in the sport who positively promotes and influences the sport, inspiring the future path for triathlon.

Several other accolades were given to members of the triathlon community during the awards ceremony, including the announcement of top retailers, most innovative triathlon produce, top triathlon highlights, best events, best triathlon article, and best triathlon photograph.
