Olympic Champion Nicola Spirig to race Ironman Cozumel

The 2012 Olympic Champion Nicola Spirig (SUI) has just announced she will follow the footsteps of training partner and countrywomen Daniela Ryf, and race her first Ironman, in Cozumel, on the 30th of November 2014.
Coached for 8 years now with legendary Bretty Sutton (who also coach Ryf and coached Chrissie Welligton), Nicola has already won several Ironman 70.3 events, including a win on the week before the London Olympics, but she has never raced the full distance Ironman.
Nicola is using Cozumel to test the waters for the Ironman distance, but her main focus remains the Rio Olympics and the qualifying events starts next year.
As an interesting fact, Nicola has previously based herself out of Asia while part of teamtbb. In 2007 she trained in Phan Nga, Thailand, then in 2008 the team moved its training camp to Krabi also in Thailand, then from 2009 the training camp was in Subic Bay, in the Philippines
