Casadei, Cigana, tied for 1st at Laguna Phuket Triathlon. Edwards takes the women’s title

Italians Alberto Casadei and Massimo Cigana were tied for the win at the 21st edition of the Laguna Phuket Triathlon. Pro rookie Parys Edwards from the UK took her first professional win, ahead of Belinda Grander and Katja Rabe

The Men’s race

Alberto Casadei and Casey Munro exited the water together and had a sixty seconds lead over a group of three which included Fredrik Croneborg from Sweden, and Aussie duo Mitchel Robins and Paul Ambrose. Massimo Ciga was a further two minutes back.

Casadei and Munro rode the entire course together while Massimo Cigana bridged the gap to the chasing group and later on dropped them coming into transition two in third place one minute behind the leaders.

Onto the run, Casadei quickly dropped Munro, but saw Cigana closing the gap to fifteen seconds by the end of the first run lap. They both ran together for the second lap and crossed the finish line with the Italian flag. Mitchel Robins from Australia was third place

The Women’s

Katja Raba from Germany and Belinda Grander from Australia exited the water together with Brooke in third place. Onto the bike Katja and Belinda stayed together while Parys Edwards moved up to third place and got closer to the leaders.

Out on the run course, Parys Edwards overtook Katja and Belinda at the 4km mark to take the lead and bring home her first professional win. Belinda Granfer held onto second place while Katja Rabe was third.
